SHOOTING A ROUND OF SPORTING CLAYS
We have two 100 shot courses, "Blue" & "White" with 14 stations each (Both courses can be shot as a half course with only 50 Targets). There are 2 machines at each station. Targets are thrown in pairs. A pair of targets may be thrown as a true pair (or sim pair, i.e., thrown at the same time), as a following pair (thrown sequentially), or on report (the second clay launched on the sound of the shooter’s gun). You’ll start on the assigned first station and shoot each station in order. Before the first person in every squad (group) shoots, you are allowed a "show pair" to familiarize yourself with what and how the targets are being thrown and strategize how you’ll shoot them. There is a card pinned up at every station with the number of clays for each person to shoot.
When your turn comes up to shoot, be ready. Step up to the station. Then and only then do you load your shotgun. Point it safely toward the target firing area. When your gun is ready and you are in position, relax and call “PULL!” When you shoot, the target will be considered a “dead bird” if any part of it is broken.
When you’re done shooting at a station, open your gun, remove the used hulls, dispose of them in the trash can provided and exit the station. Remain behind the shooting station, out of the way until all shooters have shot that station and are ready to move on to the next shooting station.
THE GREEN COURSE IS THE ONLY COURSE THAT YOU CAN DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE TO.
A GOLF CART IS REQUIRED ON ALL OTHER COURSES OR YOU CAN WALK IF YOU CHOOSE.
SPORTING CLAYS is a shooting sport where the clay targets are thrown from machines that are place in positions designed to simulate the unpredictability of live-quarry shooting, offering a great variety of trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations, distances, and target sizes from station to station. You will have everything from crossing, coming toward you, going away from you, running on the ground and dropping out of the sky targets.
It is described as a "golf course with a shotun because a typical course is laid out over natural terrain."
